Name: Ben Roberts and Steve Slimm

From: UK

Style: Improvised World Music on Guitar and Cello

Ben Roberts is a 'cellist based in Totnes, South Devon. He has spent the last 30 years playing in orchestras, string quartets and chamber groups as well as a variety of classical and contemporary projects. A solo artist and as a collaborator with other musicians, dancers and visual artists, he is a long-standing member of Evi Vine’s band who has toured the UK and Europe several times.

Currently, Ben is working as a session cellist and multi-instrumentalist, providing acoustic and electric cello, string arrangements, production, guitar, bass, vocals and keys for a broad range of artists, both directly and through recording studios. He wrote and released his own debut album in 2021 under the name Prosthetic Head.

As a painter, musician, poet and dancer, Steve Slimm refers to himself as a New Renaissance Man. He took up guitar at fourteen and flute in his thirties. After several years of classical, jazz and contemporary study, he has channelled his music almost exclusively into spontaneous improvisation, both as soloist and collaborator.

Steve’s collaborations with cellist Ben Roberts began in 2021 at the now legendary Barrelhouse sessions in Totnes, Devon, and have gained a passionate and unprecedented following. Their Hellys concert promises to continue this exciting spontaneous invocation of the muse - never before heard, and never to be repeated. Be prepared to be taken on a voyage in sound that will connect you with unexplored parts of consciousness, the strands of empathy that make us all human. An absolutely unmissable event for anyone wishing to expand their horizons of musical appreciation by experiencing the co-creation of emotion through sound!
